The Staten Island Yankees continued their tough opening to the season with another loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Taylor Morton was on the hill for the Baby Bombers and took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out two.
The lone Staten Island Yankee run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Saxon Butler lined a double to left with one-out and after pop out by Jackson Valera, Exicardo Cayones lined a double to the right field corner bringing home Butler.
Alex Smith was next on the hill for the Yankees and was touched for four runs on four hits and a walk in his only inning of work. Left-hander Evan DeLuca followed him in the seventh inning and allowed a homerun to give Hudson Valley an 8-1 lead. Then in the top of the ninth he allowed a two-run homerun, giving the Renegades a 10-1 lead.
Taylor Morton took the loss, his first of the season. Tomorrow night these two teams will meet once more with the Yankee looking to prevent a sweep. Gabe Encinas is scheduled to make the start.
