SI Yanks Continue To Hit in Victory over ‘Birds

ABERDEEN, MD – The Staten Island Yankees bats continue to come alive as they defeated the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 4-1.  Yankees hitters combined for eleven hits in the game, with Daniel Lopez and Thairo Estrada had three hits apiece in the game.
 
Staten Island started the scoring off in the top of the second inning.  Renzo Martini reached on a throwing error and then went to third on a two-out single by Thairo Estrada.  Martini scored and Estrada moved to second when Jake Anderson hit an infield single to the shortstop.  The Yankees added another in the top of the third.  Daniel Lopez opened the inning with a double to left and went to third on a throwing error by the left fielder, before scoring on a single to center by Austin Aune.
 
Aberdeen would get one run back in the bottom of the third off of starter Andy Beresford.  Beresford pitched four innings allowing just one run on four hits and striking out three.  He was followed by Matt Wotherspoon who pitched two perfect innings to earn the win.
 
In the top of the seventh inning the Baby Bombers added another run.  Thairo Estrada singled to center to start the inning, stole second and then moved to third on a ground out by Radley Haddad.  Daniel Lopez then singled to right to bring home Estrada and give the Yankees a 3-1.
 
Left-hander Ethan Carnes was next on the mound for Staten Island.  Carnes pitched two shutout innings allowing just a hit and two strike outs.
 
The Staten Island Yankees added an addition insurance run in the top the ninth.  Thairo Estrada started the inning off with his third hit of the night, then moved to second on a passed ball before scoring on a two-out double by Daniel Lopez.
 
Chad Taylor came into the game for the ninth inning, and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to earn his first save of the season.
 
Tomorrow night the Staten Island Yankees will complete the two-game series with David Palladino on the mound.  On Wednesday night the Baby Bombers will return home for Rock of Ages and $0.50 Wing Night.
