Meet six under the radar New York Yankees pitching prospects at the lower levels of the minors who fans should know ahead of the 2022 season.
Clay Aguilar
LHP
Age: 22
Highest Level: High-A

Clay Aguilar (John Brophy / Pinstriped Prospects)
Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Aguilar put up an impressive 1.90 ERA in 52 innings of work in 2021 between Tampa and Hudson Valley. The southpaw reliever struck out 71 while only walking 11, and held opponents to a .162 average.
The University of Houston product’s repertoire features a fastball, curveball, and changeup. His fastball is his go-to pitch, with a high spin rate and arm-side run.
Yon Castro
RHP
Age: 22
Highest Level: Low-A

After inconsistent seasons in the GCL and DSL in 2018 and 2019, Castro posted a 2.36 ERA and struck out 35 batters in 26.2 innings between the FCL and Low-A Tampa in 2021. He mixes a fastball with a natural cut, a sinker, and changeup to produce a high rate of weak contact.
Mitch Spence
RHP
Age: 23
Highest Level: High-A

After a strong pro debut for Pulaski, the 2019 10th rounder moved into the starting rotation in 2021, where he impressed for High-A Hudson Valley. The right-hander posted a 3.94 ERA with 118 strikeouts to only 37 walks in 105 innings. Spence’s repertoire features a fastball in the low 90’s, curveball, slider, and changeup.
Edgar Barclay
LHP
Age: 23
Highest Level: High-A

In 2021 Barclay, a lefty reliever, pitched to a 2.22 ERA with Low-A Tampa, striking out 73 in 48.2 innings of work and holding opponents to a .145 average. The 2019 15th round pick was assigned to Hudson Valley in late July, where he did not find the same success, allowing six home runs in 28.2 innings, but still proved his ability to get outs.
Anderson Munoz
RHP
Age: 23
Highest Level: High-A

Signed as a free agent in 2018 after being released by the Twins organization, Munoz pitched extremely well in short-season Staten Island in 2019, with a 2.60 in 13 outings.
In 50.2 innings of work between Hudson Valley and Tampa in 2021, Munoz struck out 74 and held opponents to a .194 while posting a 3.73 ERA. He has experience as both a starter and long reliever, with nine starts and seven relief appearances last season.
Listed at 5-foot-8, 158 pounds, he reaches the upper-90’s with his fastball and has a strong curveball and changeup to go with it.
Nelvin Correa
RHP
Age: 24
Highest Level: Low-A

Correa, a 2016 international signing, has put up impressive numbers through his four minor league seasons, with a 21-8 record and 2.91 ERA.
In 2021 he posted a 1.06 ERA with Tampa and held opponents to a .149 average before a promotion to Hudson Valley in August, where he struggled with a 6.48 ERA in ten outings. He finished the season with a 2.59 ERA.
Correa, a reliever, doesn’t strike out very many batters, averaging just more than eight strikeouts per nine innings in his career. He has a high ground ball rate and throws a fastball, sinker, curveball, and changeup.
