After some afternoon rain the Staten Island Yankees defeated their rivals, the Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU Park in Coney Island 4-2. Matt Snyder lead the Yankees offensively with two hits in four trips and two RBIs while Gabe Encinas pitched five solid innings to get the win.
The Baby Bombers started the scoring off in the top of the second inning when Matt Snyder doubled to right and went to third on a ground out to short by Ravel Santana before scoring on a one-out single to center by Fu-Lin Kuo.
In the top of the third the Yankees cemented their lead plating an addition two runs. Claudio Custodio started the inning off with a single to center and then stole second. Taylor Dugas and Exicardo Cayones worked back-to-back walks to bring up Saxon Butler who lined out to short for the first out. Next at the plate was the hot-hitting Matt Snyder to grounded the ball into right field to bring home both Custodio and Dugas for his two RBIs of the game.
Right-hander Gabe Encinas earned the win for Staten Island throwing five solid innings of 1-run ball. He allowed six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in the game, sitting mostly 92-93 MPH with his fastball. He was followed by Evan DeLuca who allowed a run on four hits in two innings.
The Staten Island Yankees added one more insurance run in the top of the sixth inning on a line drive homerun, off of the second row of advertisements in left field by Jamiel Orozco. That was all the Yankees offense needed as Stefan Lopez and Taylor Garrison each pitched a shutout inning of relief. Garrison earned his fourth save of the year.
Tonight the two teams will face off again with Evan Rutckyj set to take the hill for the Staten Island Yankees.
