Spencer, 22, was named a Southern Division starter and will fill the designated hitter role in the Mid-Summer Classic. He has compiled a team-high .297 average in 46 games, hitting 47-for-158 with nine doubles and a team-high 23 runs batted in. This is the second all-star nomination of Spencer’s young career as he earned Mid-Season All-Star recognition with the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League in 2014. He was selected by the New York Yankees in the eighth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California-Irvine.
Both all-star teams will be represented by 26 players, selected by the votes of the teams’ managers and coaching staffs, local media and front office executives. The Greenville Drive led the league with eight player selections in the Southern Division. In the Northern Division, the Hickory Crawdads will send seven players to Asheville. McCormick Field will be hosting its third SAL All-Star Game.
