The Phillies hosted the Yankees today at their gulf coast league complex and the Yankees had their way for most of the game. The final score of seven to four isn’t indicative of how far apart the teams really were. The Yankees had six runs before the third inning.
Offensively Jerison Lopez and Austin Aune each did very well today. Jerison continued his hot hitting by going three for four today with a triple and a run scored. That moved his season average up to .369, very good for the second base prospect. Austin Aune went two for four today with a double, a RBI and two runs scored. He struck out once but did also draw a walk plus a stolen base.
Austin Romine continued his rehab assignment and went one for three on the day with a double and two RBI’s. Romine did strike out once and commit a throwing error during his three innings of work today behind the plate.
Chaz Hebert pitched three innings today and gave up his first earned run of the season. He allowed four hits that led to that run. On the positive side he did strike out three batters during his three innings without issuing a walk. Another positive was the four groundball outs to two flyball outs.
Coming in after Hebert was Luis Niebla who pitched five innings today. That was the only good thing about his day as he allowed five hits that led to three earned runs today with one of those hits going out of the park. Niebla also only struck out one batter for his five innings and didn’t have the ball down as he only got six groundball outs compared to seven flyball outs.
Tomorrow the Phillies come to the Yankees complex at noon.
