T-Yanks Drop 2nd Straight in 5-2 Loss to Manatees

The Tampa Yankees broke their winning streak on Wednesday with a devastating 10-2 loss to the Brevard County Manatees. Thursday they were unable to overcome a Manatees’ fifth inning rally as they dropped their second straight with a 5-3 loss.

In the bottom of the first, the T-Yanks took a 1-0 lead with a RBI double by Abiatal Avelino to send Tyler Wade home to score.

In the top of the fifth, Tampa’s Cale Coshow started the inning with a pitch inside to hit the Manatees’ Garrett Cooper. Cameron Garfield then grounded into a double play for two outs. But, the next batter to the plate Michael Ratterree was then hit by Coshow pitch and then advanced to third on a single by Rafael Neda. A RBI single by Angel Ortega then tied the game at 1. A single by Omar Garcia then loaded the bases with two outs. But, it was a grand slam to right field by Christopher McFarland that gave the Manatees the 5-1 lead.

Coshow (ERA 2.49, 4-2) went five innings allowing five runs on five hits; striking out just two and was really solid until the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the seventh the Yanks were able to tack on another run with a RBI single by Ericson Leonora to send home Miguel Andujar. Then a RBI double by Jake Skole made it a 5-3 ballgame but the Yanks were unable to get anything else going for a late rally as they lost this series to Brevard County.

Chris Smith (ERA 0.96) pitched the next three scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out three batters.

Giovanny Gallegos (ERA 1.38) pitched a perfect ninth inning.

The Tampa Yankees will now travel to Palm Beach to start a weekend series against the Palm Beach Cardinals beginning on Friday night.
