The Tampa Yankees were at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Monday night to take on the Dunedin Blue Jays. RHP Jonathan Holder (ERA 2.38) against Dunedin’s Murphy Smith (ERA 3.52).
The game seemed to stay as a pitcher’s duel with both sides unable to score for more than half of regulation.
Holder pitched 6.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing seven hits and struck out just two. On the other side, Smith pitched seven innings for the Jays, allowing just two hits by Tampa and struck out seven batters.
But, in the bottom of the eighth, with Luis Niebla (ERA 0.49) on the mound for the Yanks, Dunedin’s Mitch Nay hit a sac fly with Ian Parmley in scoring position to put the only run of the game on the board.
The Tampa Yankees had one more chance in the top of the ninth but were unable to get any sort of rally going and fell to the Dunedin Blue Jays 1-0.
Niebla (0-1) was charged with the loss as the Blue Jays take the series two games to one.
