With a solid 5-1 victory in the first game, Gabriel Encinas (ERA 3.25, 1-2) and the Tampa Yankees were back at it to take on the Dunedin Blue Jays.
However, an early four run deficit in the first inning was too much for the Yanks to overcome as they fell to the D-Jays 7-5 and split the double header on Wednesday night.
Encinas pitched just two innings allowing five hits and five runs to Dunedin while striking out two batters. Four of those runs came in the first inning and then the other in the second.
Tampa was able to get two runs on the board in the bottom of the first off a two run single by Dante Bichette Jr. to send home Tyler Wade and Dustin Fowler.
Evan Rutckyj (ERA 2.75) then pitched the next three innings allowing four hits and to runs; striking out four.
In the bottom of the fifth, Bichette struck again this time with a two run double to send home Fowler and Michael O’Neill.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ericson Leonora hit his third triple of the season and then later scored after Angelo Gumbs grounded out.
Chris Smith (ERA 1.69) then pitched the final two innings of shutout baseball; striking out two batters.
The Tampa Yankees will now travel to Joker Merchant Stadium on Thursday night to take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers for the first of a to game series.
