The Tampa Yankees had a dominating performance on Friday night against the Daytona Tortugas, and were back at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Saturday night with RHP Rookie Davis (ERA 1.66) taking the start against Daytona’s RHP Jackson Stephens (ERA 5.14).
Tampa took a two run lead in the bottom of the fourth with the first run scored off a RBI single by Kyle Higashioka and the second run scored by Matt Snyder off a ground-rule double by Ericson Leonora.
In the top of the 5th the Tortugas would score three runs off of Davis to take a 3-2. Rookie Davis would pitch five innings, allowing three hits and three runs; striking out seven batters. RHP Andrew Bailey (ERA 5.40) took over on the hill in the 6th, and would last just 2/3 of an inning, allowing a two runs, one a solo homer to start off the inning. Lefty Evan Rutckyj (ERA 4.35) then closed out the sixth and pitched the 7th with two more runs allowed by the Tortugas.
With a 7-2 ballgame, the T-Yanks would be able to tack on another run in the 8th when Higashioka scored off a double by Angelo Gumbs, making it a 7-3 ballgame.
The T-Yanks would be unable to score any more runs as they drop this one to the Tortugas as Davis is charged with the loss (1-1) as Tampa falls to (9-8) on the season.
