T-Yanks’ Offense Explodes Against ‘Tees In 12-7 Win

The Tampa Yankees were able to get in a rain free game on Monday night at home at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Brevard County Manatees.

RHP Vincente Campos (ERA 6.1) took the start for Tampa against Brevard County’s RHP Johnny Hellweg (ERA 7.50).

The T-Yanks for on the board first when Miguel Andujar walked with bases loaded to send Abiatal Avelino home to score. Dustin Fowler then helped put Tampa up 2-0 when he scored off a wild pitch by the Manatees’ Johnny Hellweg.

In the bottom of the second, the Yanks increased their lead by three more runs to make it a 5-0 game. A two run double by the New York Yankees’ fourth best prospect Jorge Mateo on a ground ball to left field, sent Ericson Leonora and Michael O’Neill both home. Mateo then scored off a double by Mike Ford on a line drive to center field.

Campos allowed one run by the Manatees in the top of the fourth for a 5-1 ballgame and then in the bottom of the fourth the Yanks were able to tack on two more runs.

Ford then added to his scoring double with a two run homerun on a line drive to right center with Avelino on base to make it 7-1. After four innings Tampa would end Hellweg’s night, as he allowed seven runs off of six hits, walking four and striking out five batters; Hellweg was charged with the loss (1-4).

In the bottom of the fifth, the T-Yanks bats continued to explode as they scored four more runs which included a RBI single by Mateo and made it a 10-1 game.

Campos went five innings allowing four runs on five hits; striking out six as he started to falter in the top of the sixth.

He was then relieved by RHP Manolo Reyes who made it through the sixth allowing three more runs by the ‘Tees and RHP Angel Rincon (ERA 4.54) closed it out by pitch the final three innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.

With a final score of 12-7, the Tampa Yankees secured the win over the Brevard County Manatees. Campos earned the win (2-5) and Rincon the save (8).
