T-Yanks sweep Jays in 5-1 win; continue playoff push

The Tampa Yankees were able to complete the sweep of the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon with RHP Brady Lail (ERA 3.13) on the hill for the Yanks.

The T-Yanks took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two run single by Aaron Judge which sent Mark Payton and Cito Culver home to score. Culver then racked up a RBI of his own in the second inning with a single on a line drive to left sending Danny Oh home.

The Blue Jays got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with a sac fly by Emilio Guerrero.

After six innings of work, Lail allowed 5 hits and 1 run; striking out two batters. RHP Philip Walby (ERA 2.31) pitched a clean seventh inning and was then followed by RHP Kyle Haynes (ERA 3.62) who took the eighth.

In the seventh, a sac fly by Mark Payton put the T-Yanks up 4-1 and a RBI single by Mike Ford in the eighth sent Eric Jagielo home to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

Caleb Cotham then pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure the T-Yanks’ victory and sweep of the Dunedin Blue Jays. Lail advances to (2-1) on the season.

The Tampa Yankees are now 2 1/2 games back of the first place Daytona Cubs as they continue this last push towards the playoffs. Tampa will now take on the Clearwater Threshers on Monday night at 7:05pm at George M, Steinbrenner Field.
