The Yankees selected Enrique “Kiko” Romero in the 7th round of the 2023 MLB Draft from the University of Arizona, a first baseman. The Yankees most recently drafted catcher Austin Wells from Arizona at their 1st round selection in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Romero is noted to be primarily a first baseman, despite some experience in the outfield because of his poor speed. At 5-foot-11, 185, he’s not the biggest frame for the position either, especially if you compare him to the Yankees’ current 1B, 6-foot-3 Anthony Rizzo.
Romero batted a slash of .345/.441/.724/1.165 with 17 doubles, 4 triples and 21 homers, driving in 89 RBI. He worked a good number of walks (36) for 13% of at-bats and struck out in 21% of at-bats (48 SO), which is a little below average.

Romero is a power-forward type of prospect, hitting homers in nearly 10% of at-bats in 2023 with Arizona, including this towering shot.
