Three Yankees Prospects Playing In the Mexican Pacific League

The Mexican Pacific League opened up their 2015 season last week and three New York Yankees minor league prospects are on the rosters of three of the eight teams in the league.  The Mexican Pacific League is one of four leagues that make up the Caribbean Leagues and meet in January for the annual Caribbean Series where they are joined by a team representing Cuba.

Right-handed pitcher Luis Niebla returns to the Mexican Pacific League after starting 9 games last year.   This year he returns to the rotation for Caneros de los Mochis and made his first start on October 11 where he allowed 1 run on 3 hits and a walk over 5 innings, earning the win and limited opposing hitters to just a .176 batting average.

Giovanny Gallegos is currently pitching out of the bullpen for Yaquis de Obregon, he made a brief appearance in a game on October 10 where he pitched 2/3 innings allowing just a hit and striking out 1 batter.  Right-handed pitcher Cesar Vargas is currently on the roster of Naranjeros de Hermosillo and made his season debut last night when he threw 1 1/3 innings of shutout baseball, allowing 2 hits and striking out 1 batter.
