ALTOONA, PA – With just three hits, the Trenton Thunder offense fell short of the Altoona Curve’s 13-hit attack Tuesday night in a 5-1 loss at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The Trenton Thunder scored a lone run in the top of the 4th inning in Tuesday’s ballgame, after the inning began with a pair of singles by Tyler Wade and Dustin Fowler. The duo advanced to second and third base with a wild pitch with no outs, followed by Tyler Austin bouncing a grounder to third base. Wade scored on the play to tie the game, 1-1, and Fowler took off for third base when the throw went across the diamond. Lane Adams walked to put runners at first and third base with one down before Altoona starter Brandon Waddell induced a double play to end the inning.
Waddell, a 5th-round pick out of Virginia in the 2015 draft, needed just 80 pitches to cut through seven innings of one-run ball on the night against the Thunder. He allowed just three hits for his second win of the season.
The game remained tied into the 5th inning before Altoona plated two runs on a pair of doubles off the starting pitcher Dietrich Enns for a 3-1 lead. Enns, who entered the night with the second-best ERA in the Eastern League, allowed three runs in 6.0 innings for his second straight loss.
