Thunder Hit Road in Style, Win 6-4 over SeaWolves

ERIE, PA – Trenton’s offense jumped over Erie starting pitcher Tommy Collier in the early innings, and the Thunder bullpen posted four shutout innings to preserve a 6-4 victory Thursday night.

Trenton scored runs in each of the first four innings, including a three-run third inning that provided starting pitcher Jeremy Bleich a cushion to earn his first victory of the season.

With a run home for Trenton in each the first and second innings, the Thunder offense went to work in the third looking to build on a 2-1 lead. Tyler Austin singled with one out before Rob Refsnyder flew to centerfield. With a runner on first base and two outs, Trenton began the run-scoring rally with a walk by Taylor Dugas. That was immediately followed by a single to centerfield by Dan Fiorito to score Austin for a 3-1 lead-with Fiorito and Dugas advancing to second and third on the throw.

The next batter was Francisco Arcia who was starting in place of New York Yankees No. 1 prospect Gary Sanchez who had a scheduled night-off. Arcia doubled past Erie first baseman Aaron Westlake to score a pair of runs to provide extra insurance and a 5-1 lead. Arcia finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk and 3 RBI.

Bleich allowed four runs in 5.0 IP and moved to 1-1 thanks to work at the back end of the game by Manny Barreda and Diego Moreno. Both pitchers tossed 2.0 shutout innings, but it was Moreno who locked down the win for his first save of the season. Moreno picked up a win in his first outing of the year on April 5th thanks to Trenton’s walk-off win, but by allowing a run in the top of the 9th of that game, Moreno was actually credited with a blown save. As a result, Moreno is now 1-for-2 in save opportunities.

The Thunder and SeaWolves continue their four-game series tomorrow at Jerry Uht Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with the Trenton Thunder pre-game show beginning at 6:20 p.m. on 91.3 FM WTSR or online at www.trentonthunder.com
