Threatening to record their longest win streak since the magical nine-game streak that culminated with an Eastern League Championship in 2013, the Thunder saw their streak come to an end with a 3-2 defeat against the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night.
Erie’s Josh Turley spun seven innings and held the Thunder to just one hit in the first six innings. The Thunder tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth with a run-scoring double by Jake Cave and an RBI groundout from Greg Bird.
However, the SeaWolves grabbed the lead right back when Dean Green drove in his third run of the night in the top of the seventh with a base hit.
Thunder starter Miguel Sulbaran lasted 4.2 innings on the mound and surrendered two runs on six hits and four walks. After walking just three batters in their previous three games, Thunder pitching walked six on Tuesday night.
Ali Castillo, who walked twice, was the only Thunder batter to reach base more than once in the game.
Your Thunder will look to bounce back on Wednesday against the SeaWolves when the teams meet for the second game of their series at 7pm. LHP Caleb Smith (3-3, 4.20) will go for the Thunder, RHP Warwick Saupold (1-3, 5.06) will throw for Erie. It’s free ice cream for all fans on Wednesday night!
