After the 19-inning marathon Friday night the New York Yankees needed a fresh arm for their bullpen, for that reason the big club has purchased the contract of left-handed Matt Tracy to a major league contract from Triple-A and promptly added him to the 25-man roster. To make room for him, fellow lefty Chasen Shreve was optioned after tossing 3.1 shutout innings against the Red Sox.
Tracy, 26, is entering his fifth season in the Yankees organization. Overall in 78 minor league games, 64 starts, he has a 3.81 ERA with 265 strikeouts in 366 innings pitched. Taking his place on the Scranton roster is left-hander Eric Wooten, who was originally scheduled to start for the Thunder Sunday.
