Reymond Nunez and the Tampa Yankees were able to bounce back after an early one run deficit on Thursday night to defeat the Brevard County Manatees 10-6 in an outing that showed how hot Tampa’s bats really are right now.
The T-Yanks took a 2-1 led in the bottom of the third with back to back homers Ericson Leonora and Nunez. In the bottom of the fourth, Aaron Judge started things off with a single on a ground ball to center. Mike Ford then followed with a single of his own and advancing Judge to third. Jose Rosario then grounded into a forced out allowing Judge to score, Ford out at second and then due to a throwing error by the Manatees, advanced to second himself. A walk by Leonora then put two runners on as Reymond Nunez walked up to the plate.
Nunez did it once again as he hit his second homerun of the night, fourth on the season, this time second three more runs home. The Yanks were done yet as they continued the offensive blast in the fifth inning with a two run double by Trent Garrison with Jagielo and Judge scoring.
RHP Brett Gerritse (ERA 4.12) had the start for Tampa on Thursday night as he worked 5 2/3 innings allowing six hits and four runs; striking out five batters.RHP Caleb Cotham then finished out the sixth inning and then the seventh inning, allowing two hits and striking out three batters. Lefty Ramon Benjamin (ERA 3.44) closed it out for the Yanks helping to secure the win.
Reymond Nunez was 3 for 4 which included two homers and a double along with 4 RBIs, Mark Payton was 2 for 4 with a RBI, Aaron Judge was 2 for 4 and Trent Garrison was 1 for 5 with a double and a RBI.
The Tampa Yankees are now just two games behind the Daytona Cubs in the race for the FSL North Divisions.
The Tampa Yankees will take on the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday evening at 7:00pm with Taylor Garrison taking the mound for the Yanks.
