As this draft season has progressed there is one major story that national people aren’t talking about. It’s that every time I write up a player it seems something has happened to them. I wrote up Brady Aiken and boom he had Tommy John surgery. Same thing went for Michael Matuella as I wrote him up and again Tommy John surgery had to happen.
This brings me to Kyler Murray. Luckily for Murray he isn’t injured but he wont’ be drafted this year. Murray has decided that he won’t submit medical data and won’t take the mandatory drug test for the first 200 picks. Because of this he is ineligible for the draft so no team can draft him. This means that the first time he will be available for the draft is when he is a junior.
Murray really has decided to put baseball on the back burner as he will be playing football and baseball. The problem for him is this, football is a 365 day sport now for major programs which Murray is going to be attending at Texas A&M. He will get to play some but he won’t be honing his baseball skills like other players will be. This also means that he won’t be going to the cape or team USA during the summer because of summer football.
Football is clearly what Murray wants to do and good for him. The only bad part is Murray isn’t much of a pro prospect because of his lack of size at the QB position. Now that could change and sub 6 feet tall QBs have prospered like Russel Wilson. So we will have to see if Murray becomes a two sport star that some people think.
