Valerio, Vidal Lead Pulaski to Fifth Straight

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Third baseman Allen Valerio had three hits, including a three-run honer in the fourth inning that broke open a Pulaski Yankees (33-21) 14-4 Appalachian League rout of the Burlington Royals (23-31) before 811 fans at Burlington Athletic Stadium Monday night.

Center fielder Carlos Vidal also had three hits and added a trio of RBIs for the Yankees, who won their fifth in a row and eighth of 10. Manager Tony Franklin’s team now leads the Appalachian League East by three games over the Princeton Rays. The Yankees have the best overall record on the Rookie Advanced circuit.

Lefty Nestor Cortes notched his fifth win in seven innings with a solid five innings, His ERA is an excellent 2.58.

The teams will conclude their three-game series at 7 p.m. Tuesday. After a Wednesday day off, the Yankees will return yo Calfee Oark, where they are 21-8, to open a three-game series with the Elizabethton Twins.
