TRENTON, NJ – After Dean Green put Erie ahead 3-0 in the top of the first with a home run, the Thunder scratched out five unanswered runs to pull out a 5-3 victory over the visiting Erie Seawolves on Friday night in front of 5,507 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The Thunder scored thanks to an error in the bottom of the first, Erie’s starter Tommy Collier held the Thunder in check into the fifth inning.
With two out in the fifth, Francisco Diaz doubled into the right field corner and advanced to third thanks to an error committed by Jeff McVaney. Tyler Wade then reached on an infield single to make it 3-2.
The Thunder tied the game when Lane Adams singled in Mark Payton with a base hit through a drawn-in infield in the sixth inning. The rally continued for the Thunder in the seventh when Tyler Wade singled, his third hit of the night, and Dustin Fowler followed him with a run-scoring triple to take the lead. Collier left the game after Fowler’s triple and the Thunder added a second later in the inning when Lendy Castillo balked in a run.
Matt Wotherspoon picked up the victory with four innings of scoreless relief. The right-hander relieved Jordan Montgomery and struck out five in his outing to improve to 2-2 on the season. Tyler Jones earned the save despite putting the tying run on base with one out in the ninth inning.
With his three-hit game, Wade has now reached in 43-of-51 games played this year. The Thunder also picked up their eighth win of the season despite being outhit by their opponent, they’re 8-14 in such games this year.
Your Thunder will play a doubleheader against the Seawolves on Saturday night beginning at 6 pm. LHP Daniel Camarena will start for the Thunder in game one he”ll be opposed by LHP Anthony Fernandez for Erie. In game two, LHP Dietrich Enns will go for the Thunder, RHP Santiago Garrido will go for Erie.
