WNEP Coverage, Partnership Ready to Roll

Annual Broadcasts of “Meet the RailRiders” & Home Opener Set

Moosic, Pa. – With the opener a week away, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) and their partners at WNEP TV proudly announce multiple elements of their 2015 partnership. It starts with a live one-hour show from the annual Meet the RailRiders party on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on WNEP2. The fun continues on Thursday, April 9 when the team’s opener against Syracuse hits the WNEP2 air, also at 7 p.m.

“For the past 26 years, WNEP has been proud to bring baseball into your homes for the Red Barons, the Yankees and now the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders,” said WNEP president and general manager Chuck Morgan. “We’re thrilled to continue the tradition of Opening Day baseball this year, bringing the excitement of local sports into living rooms all across northeastern and central Pennsylvania.”

The Meet the RailRiders coverage will include sit-down chats with a number of notable names from this year’s team with WNEP sports director Jim Coles and sports anchor/reporter Sharla McBride providing the coverage. Coles, McBride and the RailRiders’ own John Sadak will provide the live coverage of Thursday’s season opener.

“Opening Day is one of my favorite times of the year,” said Coles. “Whether it was as a 9-12 year old playing at Dandy Lion Little League to over a dozen Opening Day trips to Yankee Stadium, the first pitch, the first home run, the first win, is a thrill for player and fan alike. Every team is undefeated, and every promise is unbroken. Let’s play ball!”

As the TV media partner for the team’s Sunday Family FunDays, you can find the RailRiders’ logo on the Sunday portion of the WNEP weather forecast graphic for all Sundays that sport RailRiders home games.

“The RailRiders’ commitment to the community and their interaction with kids never ceases to impress me,” said McBride. “There’s nothing better than watching the children run the bases every Sunday afternoon, and seeing the kids’ eyes light up when they get an autograph from a future Major Leaguer. A trip to the ballpark is a great way to make memories that will last forever.”

“Opening Day for our team and WNEP have gone hand-in-hand since this franchise was born back in 1989,” said Jeremy Ruby, interim GM of the RailRiders. “We are proud to partner with one of the region’s great staples that has tethered all of NEPA together for decades.”

The RailRiders open their 2015 season at home on April 9 against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals). For more information please call (570) 969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
