With David Robertson agreeing to terms with the White Sox the Yankees have added a pick to their draft class. As of right now it is the 30th pick in the draft. Last year the 30th pick in the draft was worth $1,760,500. You should see that increase slightly based on how much revenues increased this year. I would assumed roughly 5% on that total for that pick if it ends up there.
Recent 30th picks in the draft have produced some good prospects. Ty Hensley was a great pick at 30 a few years ago as he had a ton of talent. Injuries have just delayed his full pro ball start. Luis Ortiz was drafted last year and has a good upside as a #2/3 starter for the Rangers.
I like the move of letting Robertson go. His best pitches are behind him and this is a huge win for the Yankees as they turned him from a late round pick into a great arm for them for a number of years plus a draft pick. This is something the Yankees should do more of but right now getting the 30th overall pick for your closer when that is a strength of the big league team is a win.
