Hi, what are you looking for?

Yankees 15th Round Pick: Bret Marks

Background:  Marks was a senior coming into this season and pitched for Tennessee Volunteers.  After working in relief in 2014 Marks got thrust into a starter rotation spot.  He pitched in thirteen games this year starting twelve of them.  In 77 innings he pitched to a 2.92 ERA and struck out 89.

Stuff:  The glasses wearing Marks doesn’t have big stuff.  He throws in the 80’s with his fastball.  But he has some funk to him and some deception.

My Take: Being a senior Marks isn’t much of a prospect because the stuff isn’t great.  He might put up good numbers because he has a lot of experience and knows how to locate his pitches.  But he will mostly be a minor leaguer that can talk to kids about the grind as he played ball in the SEC.  This is a pick the Yankees might to add veterans to their squads.  I wouldn’t’ be shocked if they had him in mind to work in the scouting department later on.
