Fastball (91-94 T95)– The fastball is his best pitch. He uses a ¾ arm slot that gives his fastball late sinking action. The deception of his delivery, hides the ball on the back side and causes the hitters to trouble picking it up. He will lose his timing on the delivery and cause the pitch to miss high to the arm side. This should clean up as he learns to repeat his delivery.

Breaking ball (80-83)– Solemoto has a good high school breaking ball. The arc needs to be tightened up to move it into a good professional pitch. The correction will come once he can repeat his delivery. As he gets a consistent release point, the breaking ball will begin to be released out front, allowing him to get on top and create bite.

Changeup (86-87)– The changeup is another pitch that needs to be developed. He uses the fastball/breaking ball combo most of the time. He needs to learn to trust this pitch and use it more against right handed hitters.

Mechanics:

Solemoto has a very unique delivery. There’s a lot of moving parts but does create some deception for hitters. When he’s on time with his tempo the ¾ arm swing is clean. Allowing him to have good command. But he has shown that he can get quick with his delivery, causing the arm to drag. This results in a lot of misses high to the arm side.

Command:

The command depends on the tempo and timing of his delivery. When he gets quick, he loses fastballs high to the arm side. Solemoto also needs to develop his secondary stuff as a whole.

Overall:

Solemoto is a bit of a throwback with his delivery. He shows the hitter a lot of moving parts. When he is on time, the arm swing is clean and fast. The fastball has explosive, late life when it’s down in the zone but the secondary stuff needs to be developed.

This is a left hander that will be tough to pass on if he’s available. He’s a guy with a big upside if he can learn to repeat his delivery and develop his secondary stuff.
