Yesterday the New York Yankees officially added right-handed pitcher Domingo Acevedo to the roster of the Surprise Saguaros to fill their final spot. Acevedo joins Ian Clarkin, Tyler Webb, Chaz Hebert, Gary Sanchez, Tyler Wade, Dustin Fowler and Tyler Austin.
This past season Domingo Acevedo pitched for the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League where he was undefeated with 3 wins over 11 games, all starts. Over 48 innings pitched he struck out 53 batters and held opponents to just a .207 batting average against him. Opponents scored only 8 earned runs against him the entire season, earning him a 1.69 ERA.
Acevedo possess a big time fastball that sits in the high 90’s and routinely hits 100 miles per hour on the radar gun, hitting as high as 103 MPH this past season. He follows that up with a major league change up and a slider that is developing into a solid third pitch. Some scouts see him moving into the bullpen and becoming a dominate closer but the Yankees will continue to try him out in the rotation and see if his slider develops into a major league quality pitch.
With Domingo on the roster the Yankees are now sending eight players to the Arizona Fall League which starts next week.
