Staten Island, NY- The Staten Island Yankees took on the Brooklyn Cyclones in the last game of the 2014 NY-Penn League regular season. The game was won by Brooklyn three to one but had very little significance to it as both teams were eliminated from playoff contention.
The Cyclones managed to get on the board in the Top of the Second on a Jean Rodriguez RBI single that put the Cyclones up one to nothing. That early lead would stand until the Top of the Fifth when Brooklyn plated yet another run and followed up with the same result in the Top of the Seventh.
Down the three runs in the game the Yankees managed to get a run on the board to cut the deficit to three to one. The lead cut came courtesy of a Colin Slaybaugh RBI double that brought Isias Tejada around from second base.
That run though would be the only run though in the game for the Yankees as Brooklyn’s closer Shane Bay came on in the Bottom of the Ninth to get the final three outs and close out the season. With the loss the Yankees official 2014 record dropped to 37-38.
