Yankees MiLB Preview: Deivi Day in Scranton

Triple-A

LHP Tanner Tully (1-0, 2.25) vs. RHP Deivi Garcia (0-0 0.00)

The Yankees’ #1 pitching prospect Deivi Garcia will make his AAA debut for the RailRiders after being promoted from Trenton on 7/7. Garcia shined in Trenton going 4-3 with a 3.00 ERA. He gave up only 36 hits in 51.0 innings pitched and struck out 81 opposing hitters.

Garcia joins a Scranton pitching staff that is second in the International League in ERA with 4.58. This season, RailRiders starting pitchers have thrown three complete games which is the second-most in the league. They have allowed the second-fewest hits, runs, earned runs, walks, and have the fourth-most strikeouts in the International League.

Columbus Pitchers enter this series with a team ERA of 4.71, 458 runs allowed, and 779 hits in 817 2/3 innings pitched. The Clippers have allowed the fourth-most home runs in the International League. The RailRiders are coming off a 5-3 loss to Syracuse.

Nick Nelson will make his eighth start of the season for the Thunder and his first against Altoona. He last pitched on 7/7 against Hartford where he picked up the win. The Thunder are coming off an 8-2 loss to Reading.

Thunder pitchers hold a team ERA of 3.58. They have surrendered 658 hits and 302 earned runs in 758 1/3 innings pitched. Curve pitchers hold a team ERA of 3.59 and have allowed 307 earned runs and 717 hits in 769 1/3 innings pitched.

Class-A

Charleston RiverDogs (47-47) vs. Augusta Green Jackets (48-44)

RHP Harold Cortijo (3-1, 1.62) vs. TBD

Harold Cortijo will make his seventh start of the season for the RiverDogs and his second against Augusta. He last faced the Green Jackets on 7/2 where he took the loss after allowing just one earned run on four hits in 6.0 innings pitched. Cortijo’s last start was on 7/9 against Rome. He pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed five hits and struck out four. The RIverDogs hope to bounce back after getting swept in a doubleheader against Columbia on Sunday.

RiverDogs pitchers currently hold a team ERA of 3.91 and have allowed 359 earned runs on 697 hits in 827 1/3 innings pitched and have struck out 858 opposing hitters. Augusta pitchers have a team ERA of 3.34 and have allowed 300 earned runs on 710 hits in 809 2/3 innings pitched.

T.J. Sikkema will make his third start of the season for the SI Yanks and his first against State College. He last pitched on 7/7 against the Connecticut Tigers going 3.0 innings allowing only one hit and stuck out three. Staten Island is coming off a walk-off win in extra innings over the Spikes on Sunday.

Staten Island pitchers currently have a team ERA of 3.25 and have allowed 88 earned runs on 203 hits in 243 1/3 innings pitched. State College pitchers have an ERA of 4.25 and have allowed 123 earned runs on 245 hits in 260 2/3 innings.

Rookie-Advanced

Bristol Pirates (12-13) vs. Pulaski Yankees (15-9)
Calfee Park | Pulaski, VA
TBD vs. LHP Ken Waldichuk (0-1, 4.70 ERA)

Ken Waldichuk will make his fourth start of the season for Pulaski and his second against Bristol. He faced the Pirates on 7/8 and threw 3.0 perfect innings, striking out five. Opponents are hitting .214 against Waldichuk thus far in the season and he holds a WHIP of 0.91. The Yanks are looking to win their fifth game in a row.

Pulaski Pitchers hold a team ERA of 3.94 and have allowed 92 earned runs on 186 hits in 210 1/3 innings pitched. They have allowed the second-fewest hits in the Appalachian League and have the lowest team WHIP of 1.26. Bristol pitchers have a team ERA of 3.91 and have allowed 97 earned runs on 207 hits in 223 1/3 innings pitched.
