The New York Yankees have outrighted right-handed pitcher Diego Moreno off of the 40-man roster in preparation of the 2015-2016 off season. Also Sergio Santos elected free agency.
Moreno, 28, made his major league debut in 2015 with the Yankees but was placed on the disabled list with elbow inflammation. In his first major league season Diego appeared in just 4 games, allowing 6 runs over 10 1/3 innings of work and struck out 8 batters. He also pitched in 26 games out of the bullpen for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. There he had a 2.18 ERA with 3 wins over 53 2/3 innings.
Originally coming over to the Yankees from the Pirates in the AJ Burnett trade Diego Moreno has spent the last 3 seasons in the Yankees minor leagues.
Santos, 32, was signed as a minor league free agent on June 10, 2015 and started his road back with the Double-A Trenton Thunder where he threw just 1 inning in 1 game before getting the call back to the big leagues. With the big club he allowed 2 runs over 3 innings of work over 2 games.
