2022 was a year of great memories for the Somerset Patriots — a season full of untapped potential with players like Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells capped by an Eastern League Championship for the Boys of Summer. One of the bright spots towards year end was the arrival of “The Martian” himself, Jasson Domínguez.

In Year 2, the organization saw Domínguez rise through 3 levels of the Yankees farm system starting in Single A Tampa and ending the regular season in Double A Somerset before landing in Arizona and becoming an AFL Fall Star for the Mesa Solar Sox. In 120 games Dominguez hit .273 with an OPS of .836, tallying 16 home runs and 59 RBIs, earning him the 2022 Kevin Lawn Award as the Yankees’ Minor League Position Player of the Year.
“The Martian,” who hopes to land in the big leagues this year, is already starting the season with a bang, batting .455/.520/1.045/1.565 and driving 4 balls out of the park this Spring. He will, however, start the year in the Minors — where he will look to build on his success in the organization.

Will Warren was also awarded the 2022 Kevin Lawn Award as the Yankees’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Warren’s season started in A+ Hudson Valley and ended in Double A Somerset, where he was named “Eastern League Pitcher of the Week” for the week of July 10, 2022. Warren went 9-9 with a 3.91 ERA in 26 starts on the year. Warren pitched 2 nearly perfect innings this Spring, allowing only a hit. The Yankees’ 9th overall prospect looks to build on the success he saw last year and continue his rise through the organization.
Today, both Warren and Domínguez were honored for their respective awards in a pregame ceremony. Previous Position Player and Pitcher of the Year recipients include Don Mattingly, Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge, Anthony Volpe, Andy Pettitte, Luis Severino, and Michael King, among many others.

Via the Yankees: “The annual awards are dedicated to Kevin O’Brien Lawn—the son of longtime Yankees Vice President and Chief of Operations Jack Lawn—who passed away in 1999.”
