According to a source, the Yankees have released 17 minor league players ahead of the upcoming FCL (Florida Complex League) season, formerly known as the Gulf Coast League season, start next week. The organization is limited to a certain number of players, and that number is a bit smaller with the Minor League Baseball contraction that happened during this past off-season. The players released are as follows:
- Christian Andrade – Outfielder from Caracas, Venezuela. He’s been with the Yankees since July 2016. He had a .222 average with six home runs and 35 RBI’s during his time with the Yankees and had a .675 OPS.
- Jeison Anillo – Infielder who has been with the Yankees since July 2019.
- Jesus Bravo – Catcher who was signed by the Yankees in July 2019 as a free agent.
- Kevyn Camacho – Catcher from Maracay, Venezula. He’s been with the Yankees since July 2018 and has spent most of his career on the 60-day injured list. He batted .345 with 10 RBI’s and a .879 OPS during his time with the organization.
- Carlos Gallardo – Catcher from La Victoria, Venezuela. He’s been with the Yankees since February 2015 and has played his highest level of baseball with Pulaski. Over the course of his career he batted just .191 through 298 at-bats at the rookie level, with one home run, 23 RBI’s, three stolen bases, and a .542 OPS.
- Ismael Gomez – Right-handed pitcher from Porlamar, Venezuela. Signed a minor league contract with the Yankees as a free agent in 2018 and has played with Pulaski. Over the course of his career throughout the organization, he was 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA over the course of 46.2 innings pitched. He had 44 strikeouts and a 1.46 WHIP.
- Robert Javier – Right-handed outfielder from Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic. He has been with the Yankees since 2017 and has played with Pulaski. He batted .249/.321/.325/.646 over the course of his career with the Yankees.
- Thowar Martinez – Right-handed pitcher who has been with the Yankees since 2018. He is 8-4 with DSL with a 5.18 ERA over the course of 66 innings pitched. He has 79 strikeouts and a 1.55 WHIP.
- Alex Mejias – Right-handed pitcher from Cabimas, Venezuela. He has been with the Yankees since 2015 and the highest level he played at was with Pulaski. Over the course of his career, Mejias is 12-7 with a 3.17 ERA. He has 111 strikeouts over the courseof 145 innings pitched and a 1.28 WHIP.
- Gabriel Mora –Right-handed catcher from Barquisimeto, Venezuela. He’s been with the team since 2016 and made it to high-A with the Tarpons in 2018. Over the course of his career, he has hit .176/.270/.235, with a .505 OPS.
- Raymundo Moreno – outfielder from Punto Fijo, Venezuela. He has been with the Yankees since 2015 andhas hit .259/.358/.337, with a .694 OPS.
- Deivi Munoz – Shortstop from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. He has been with the Yankees since 2018 and his highest level he was assigned to was High-A in 2019. Over the course of his career, he has batted .322/.367/.500, with a .867 OPS. He has 11 doubles, 10 triples, 20 RBI’s, and 13 stolen bases.
- Luis Ojeda – Right-handed pitcher from Valencia, Venezuela. He has been with the Yankees at the minor league level since 2015 and has bounced between GCL and Pulaski. Over the course of his career he his 4-7 with a 5.91 ERA over the course of 141.2 innings pitched. He recorded 11 strikeouts and has a WHIP of 1.47 between GCL and rookie level.
- Starlin Paulino – Shortstop who has been with the Yankees since 2017 at the GCL level. He has batted .244, with three home runs, 51 RBI’s, 12 stolen bases, and a .673 OPS during his career at GCL.
- Jhoiner Rodriguez – Right-handed catcher from Carora, Venezuela. He has been with the Yankees since 2017 and has played with DSL and GCL. Over the course of his career he has batted .176/.268/.223, with a .491 OPS. He has seven doubles, 10 RBI’s, and just four stolen bases throughout his career.
- Meure Rodriguez – Right-handed catcher from Maracaibo, Venezuela. He has been with the organization since 2015 and has played his highest level with Staten Island in 2018. Over the course of his career he has hit .191/.330/.232/.562 with seven doubles, one home run, and 17 RBI’s. He has six stolen bases.
- Jesus Severino – Right-handed outfielder from Maracay, Venezuela. He has been with the Yankees since 2016 at the DSL and GCL levels. Over the course of his career he has batted .185/.348/.288, with a .636 OPS. He has nine doubles, three triples, five home runs, and 29 RBI’s. He has been walked 47 times and has 33 stolen bases throughout his career.
The Florida Complex League season begins this week for teams as the young guys look to impress and make their way through the organization. The Gulf Coast league has not played since 2019 due to there being no minor league season, so for many of these players, this is the first time they’ve played in a game since 2019.
