The New York Yankees took Cade Smith out of Mississippi State in the 6th round of the MLB Draft on Tuesday.
Smith is a 21-year-old, 6-foot-1, 190 lb. pitcher that has a fastball as his best pitch, clocking in at 92-95 but reaches 97 MPH. This past season, he had an ERA of 5.23, with a WHIP of 1.51, a K/9 of 9.63 (very good) and a BB/9 of 5.86 (poor). The opposing batting average is a little concerning at .425, so there’s some work to do.
Another big K for Cade Smith

Smith did struggle a little during his junior year, however he was Mississippi State’s most consistent starting pitcher. He struck out 46 hitters in 43 innings of work, pitching in 10 games and starting 9 of them.
Smith was injured early on that sidelined him for a few weeks. However, he remained reliable by throwing at least 6 innings on three different appearances which is good for a top spot in the SEC.
His career with the Bulldogs as a whole has been fantastic. Pitiching in 34 games (starting 24) and holding down a 4.14 ERA with 132 Ks in 130.1 innings pitched.
