The Yankees selected Jared Wegner, an outfielder from Arkansas, as their 282nd overall pick in the 9th round.
Wegner, a 6-foot, 220 lb outfielder, played a grad year with Arkansas last season after spending 4 years with Creighton. Wegner is another power-forward prospect, hitting a grand slam in his first game as a freshman with Creighton in 2019.
Wegner batted .306/.452/.667/1.119 in 147 at-bats, with a BABIP of .330. His strikeout (42 SO) rate of 28.6% is a little on the high side, but he worked walks (33 BB) well at 17.6%

Wegner had season-ending injuries in both 2020 (broken hamate) and 2021 (hamate bone didn’t heal properly), then dealt with a fractured thumb at the beginning of the 2023 season, so the recurrent injury concern is there.
