Yankees Selected Terrance Robertson In The 12th Round

Terrance is a centerfielder who hails from Suprise Arizona.  He played for Valley Vista High School and hit very well his last two years.  This year he hit .427/.511/.736 with more walks 20 compared to strikeouts 12.

Tools: Not much is known about Terrance as he wasn’t on any lists that far down.  But the video that MLB had of him from a perfect game event did show what appeared to be plus speed.  He laid down a bunch from the left side and appeared to get to first base in sub 4 time which would be close to 80 speed on the 20 to 80 scale.

My take: Not much is known about Robertson so it’s hard to really have a good or bad opinion of the kid.  The Yankees wouldn’t have taken him with their 12th round pick unless they wanted to sign him.  If he has one plus tool in speed that means there is a chance he will have good defense which the Yankees seem to really value now.  The bat is going to be raw and that’s fine.  Don’t take his stat line and think he’s going to be a stud as high school stats mean nothing.  Now I will say his pitch recognition might be something as he played in Arizona which is a pretty decent state for draft talent.  An intriguing pick that I believe signs pretty quickly for the Yankees.
