Yankees Sign Lefty Perez to MiLB Deal

Earlier today the Team Mexico Twitter account reported that the New York Yankees have signed left-handed relief pitcher Oliver Perez to a minor league contract and will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the 2018 season.

Last season with the Nationals, Perez was 0-0 with 4.64 ERA and 39 strikeouts, 12 walks over 33 innings pitched.  Perez has appeared in 552 career major league games with the Padres, Pirates, Mets, Mariners, Diamondbacks, Astros and Nationals.  In that time, he earned a 4.46 ERA and struck out 1,436 batters in 1,367 innings pitched.

Perez signing will give the Yankees needed left-handed relief pitcher depth in the upper levels, something they lost when Wade LeBlanc was released from his contract.  This spring he was in camp with the Cincinnati Reds where he threw 6 2/3 innings over 7 games and earned 1 -0 record with a 13.50 ERA.
