According to a post on his Instagram account on Sunday night, veteran first baseman Chris Parmelee has signed a contract with the Yankees.
Details of the transaction were not immediately known but it seems likely that it would be a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.
The 27-year old Parmelee appeared in 32 big league games with the Baltimore Orioles in 2015 where he hit just .214 with 4 homers and 9 RBI. Parmelee was drafted in the first round of the 2006 draft and spent the first four seasons of his career with the Minnesota Twins.
With Greg Bird out for all of 2016, Parmelee is a depth signing in case Mark Teixeira were to go down with another significant injury. It seems likely that Parmelee will find himself playing first base for Scranton which now poses the question, where does this leave Tyler Austin? We shall find out soon enough.
